  • Staff development is a long-term investment aimed at enhancing skills, knowledge and attitudes which are beneficial to the individual and organisation. Recognising an individual’s capability and supporting their development improves staff retention, makes them feel valued, equips them to be adaptable, and improves productivity and performance, all of which are essential in the challenging environment of the NHS.

This award will be made to an individual who has demonstrated a strong commitment to their own career development and long-term professional growth. It celebrates colleagues who actively invest in building their skills, knowledge and capability through learning and development opportunities, and who apply this growth to enhance their role, performance and contribution to the organisation.

Nominees will be considered from those individuals who are currently developing through education qualifications, mentoring, leadership development or other recognised career progression pathways. The submission should set out the benefits of the development path for the individual and the Service Board.

  • Staff within CEF often underestimate their role and how their interaction with patients can affect that individual’s outcome. Patients may be anxious, lonely or fearful and friendly communication or an act of kindness can often have a profound and lasting impact on their experience.

Nominees for this award will have demonstrated empathy and understanding towards the patients, which creates a welcoming and positive environment where those patients feel supported and understood.

  • This award is not just for those in a management position because anyone at any level can be a leader and make a difference to service delivery.

This award recognises a role model with integrity who creates a positive impact in the development of those around them, through their leadership style and willingness to help people to be the best they can be.

We are looking for evidence of:

    • How they have supported a local team through the challenges of the year.

    • Demonstrating inspirational qualities that motivate and support colleagues.

    • Embracing their own personal development and that of others in the team.

    • Making positive service changes and raising staff morale.

  • This award looks to celebrate an individual with less than five years’ experience at the Trust who gives up their time, lends their experiences and delivers better services for themselves and others in their area.

The judges will be looking for evidence of an individual working together with others to ensure they better meet the needs of those they serve. This could be through:

    • Clearly demonstrating our Health Board core values with a ‘can do’ attitude.

    • Showing real initiative and being a great team player.

    • Providing critical but constructive feedback on the performance of the team they work in.

    • Looking at new ways to continuously improve the services and area they work in.

    • Demonstrating civility and respect and showing a great commitment to inclusion and diversity.

  • The need to ‘measure-review-adapt’ to support continuous improvement has never been more important for the NHS than it is now. Technology, along with the drive towards sustainability, is ever present and CEF must be a part of that journey.

This award looks to recognise an individual or team who have identified opportunities to adapt to improve the services we provide. Whether that be through technology, modernisation of equipment or improved working practices, the nominee will have developed or adapted a way of working that has enhanced our patient’s experience.

In assessing the winners in this category, it is important to identify the problem that existed, the benefits that change and innovation could bring and the outcome (if completed).

  • The Health Board provides an extensive array of services throughout the community and CEF manages and maintains a large number of assets to support the delivery of these services. These facilities are often overlooked by the larger acute settings, and this goes for the staff who work at these facilities, who play an equally important role cleaning, maintaining and securing these sites for the benefit of our patients.

This award introduced in 2025 is in recognition of the important contribution the community teams play within the Health Board and particularly CEF. Nominations are invited for individuals or small teams who provide the services within the community setting and who do so with dedication and compassion.

In assessing the winners within this category, judges will be looking for examples of those nominated who undertake their duties to a high standard, often with little supervision but who ensure that the quality of service in maintained.
